The Orphan Sponsorship Program invites you to the Fall 2008 Kick-Off Meeting this Wednesday, 6:00pm @ MC 2017! We’ll be discussing our goals, events, other projects for the term, and how you can get more involved. You’ll also learn more about our past accomplishments and we’re interested in any feedback or suggestions you may have for the program. Following the meeting, there will be the free regular Iftar provided by the MSA!

If you’re interested in learning more about the UW-MSA Orphan Sponsorship Program or have any suggestions/comments for us, please come out to the meeting. Anyone and everyone is welcome! This is also when we all vote for which countries we’d like to see new sponsorships come from and is always a lot of fun. Free snacks will be served.

Orphan Relief BBQ a Great Success! Almost $2000 Raised!
Posted by admin in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farIt is with great pleasure, we’d like to announce that the 2nd annual Orphan Relief BBQ was a tremendous success! Our initial goal of raising over $1000 was nearly doubled as were able to raise $1928.27 in the end! Not only did we surpass our financial goal, but it was very heart-warming to see so many people coming out and helping with the cause. None of this could have been done without the help of our volunteers and we greatly appreciate all your help!

Annual OSP Fundraising BBQ - Volunteers Needed! June 4, 2008
Posted by admin in : Events, Announcements , 2 commentsThis term’s annual BBQ is being scheduled for June 25 and 26, 2008 on the B2(Biology) Green. Last year, we were able to raise over $1000 and this time around we are hoping to beat that mark. The scheduling has been finalized so please come out and support the cause whenever you can from 10:30am to 4:00pm!
Also, we need all the help we can get so if you can lend us a hand in planning this event or volunteer on the day-of, please email us at uwmsa.orphans@gmail.com.
OSP Visits Local Mosque - Childrens’ Letter Writing Session
Posted by admin in : Uncategorized , add a commentIssam Aib, a part-time teacher, invited the OSP to the Waterloo Masjid on May 25, 2008. Children in his Sunday School class who were between the ages of 8 to 12 had the opportunity to connect with other children across the globe by taking part in a letter writing session. Not only did they enjoy writing and decorating these letters, but many of them also reflected on the plight and hardships that these orphans face. It was an excellent way for the kids to learn about charity and the importance of giving, yet at the same time actually have the chance to make a difference. Thanks to all who made this event possible!

We will be holding our Spring 2008 OSP Kick-Off Meeting this coming Tuesday May 20th @ 6:00PM in SLC 3103! We’ll be discussing all our goals, events and other projects for the term. There will also be some snacks and drinks provided, not to mention the chance to spend some time with the fun and entertaining OSP Execs! You have been warned!

Drop off Pledge Forms & OSP Volunteers Meet March 28, 2008
Posted by admin in : Events, Winter 2008, Announcements , add a commentIf you’ve still got your pledge forms from the Walk for Darfur, please get’em back to us ASAP. There will be someone in the MSA office from 10:30 am -12:30 pm and then from 1:30 - 4:00 pm on Monday March 31st, to whom you can give it to.
The MSA Office is located in SLC 2119, Office #12, above the Imprint’s Office. Please ask the Turnkey for directions to the ‘Club Offices’ area if you can’t find it.
As well, you can even bring along the form to the “OSP concluding-for-the-semester” meeting on Monday (Mar 31st). It’s at 3:30 pm in SLC 3103 (that’s across the quiet study area on the 3rd floor of the SLC). We’ll be giving an update on the OSP for the semester, tallying up how much we’ve raised, and deciding on where to sponsor orphans from. So if you can come out, that’d be great!
However, if these times don’t work for you, please send us an email and we’ll try our best to personally meet you at your convenience.

The Orphan Sponsorship Program is teaming up with UWGAG’s (Genocide Action Group) Walk for Darfur event. Funds raised through the Orphan Sponsorship Program will go towards Orphan Relief work in Darfur.
